CEV Seminar - Developing Young Players
DEVELOPING YOUNG PLAYERS (13-18yr) 30 October - 1 November 2015
We're delighted to announce our latest seminar that's taking place at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering - focused on coaches working with young players and youth teams.
Running over two days, it will be delivered by two top European experts: Joel Banks (Belgian Junior Head Coach & Ex GB Development Programme Head Coach) and Antti Paananen (Former Head Coach of Finland's junior and women's national teams).
About the Seminar
Delegates will come away with an in-depth knowledge of how to run successful youth development programmes, how to manage talented athletes, how to specialise, how to progress players and much, much more. The seminar will be held alongside the U17 NEVZA Championships and will provide an opportunity to observe junior coaches and players as part of the course.
The seminar will cover:
- Technical & tactical analysis of young players
- Specialisation – when, how
- Integrating mental skill development into practice
- Different types of practice for young players
- Planning based on Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) philosophies
- Progressing young players into senior set ups
- Skill development
- How to manage talented athletes
You will leave the seminar with the expertise to transform your training environments and lots more knowledge on how to be more effective with the training time you have.

Tutor: Joel Banks
For the past two years, Joel has been the Head Coach of the Belgian Junior Men’s National Team which has recently competed in the U19 World Championships in Argentina. He also served as the Assistant Coach of the Belgian senior men’s team at the recent European Games in Baku. Joel was also the Assistant Coach of Great Britain’s men’s team from 2007 – 2012, including the Olympic Games. Before coaching, Joel was a former GB international player and also played professionally in the Belgian premier league.
Tutor: Antti Paananen
Antti spent 12 years in charge of the Finnish Federation where he was the Sport Director of all the national teams, including time as the women’s head coach (2004-2007) and the junior national team coach (1996 – 2001). He has also coached professionally guiding women’s league team Hämeenlinna to three Finnish Championships (1999-2002), taking part in European Cups every year, and also winning four junior Finnish championships.
Both prices include accommodation on Friday and Saturday evening and all meals throughout the course.

The course will take place in the FIVB/CEV Regional Volleyball Development Centre – Kettering (ENG), just one hour north of London. The centre provides top class sports facilities for International athletes and coaches.
The main arena has four volleyball courts and offers a wide range of additional facilities. There are a number of dining/bar areas situated around the complex.
